After the Month of Kernel Bugs, are you concerned about Mac OS X security?
No - 62%
See, that bugs me. Everyone should be concerned about security. I believe OS X's overriding security feature is obscurity, and once that situation changes I can see the OS falling over very quickly.
One of the weakest links in the chain is the user, and if the user is not concerned then you have a problem.
Dont get me wrong, I think OS X is great, but it just hasn't been "weathered" in the wild like Windows has. If OS X becomes a viable target then we're in for a bumpy ride.
OSX is based on FreeBSD, which has been around for an eternity and includes modules from even older Unixy stuff. There's paying attention, there's worrying, and then there's running around with your hair on fire digging for a bomb shelter with your bare hands. We're at the pay attention stage.
MOKB showed that the kernel can be a source of bugs and that OS design should incorporate this problem into the design. This doesn't mean panic or worry or take a pair of scissors to your broad-band connection, this means Apple has some things to fix. It also showed that wireless is inherently insecure and the problems with drivers can affect Windows, Mac OSX and Linux.
Again, MOKB isn't all that important, it's Apple's response to problems that really matters.

Maybe I need more RAM, but I was dissapointed to be reminded of Virtual PC, the way it totally slows the rest of my Mac down...

Also, the first MBA didn't have it, and they introduced it in the B revision. So they have been able to squeeze it in before where they weren't initially.
It would be a nice selling point for the upgraded model (as opposed to the base model), same as they did with the PowerBook for a while.
Not True. The first MBA DID have it.
This ... from ZDNet:
"The worst part about the backlight’s omission is that the original MacBook Air (circa 2008) had a keyboard backlight. Obviously, there’s no technical reason that it couldn’t be done, so why did Apple drop it from the 2010 MBA?
It can’t be a price issue. How much does a keyboard backlight LED cost in Apple quantities? A dollar? You can’t make the case for battery life either, because it’s easily turned off in System Preferences.
So why did Apple really drop the keyboard backlight in the new MBA? Planned obsolescence, my friend. How much do you want to bet that the 2011 model has a keyboard backlight?"

Well I got to irvine way late. Walked up and the person in front of me got the last ticket. They seemed to have less than 50-70units as that how many people seemed to be in line.
Mission Viejo? Or just wait?
Is this at the spectrum?

Looks ugly and much like a photo shopped iPod touch. Plus the bottom is to thin to support the 30pin as the iPod touch is just about big enough and losing half it's depth would be to narrow. Plus getting screen plus a5 plus screen into that form factor doesn't seem possible oh and don't forget a decent battery.

Also, Apple is Evil and you are living in Steve Job's RTF.
and... and... 4G.
and... widgets.
Well, the fake 4G carriers are using is faster than the 3G Apple supports, so that's an ok argument.
Apple is pretty evil, but all multibillion dollar corporations are. You don't get rich by being nice. Steve jobs also seems like a jerk in all of those little e-mails he sends out to various people.
Widgets are cool, the iPhone needs an option for them!
You forgot the "Android is open and iOS is closed!!" fanboy argument :(, that's the only one that doesn't really make much sense.

Ripping-off other companies' UI's is "innovation" now?
Samsung is such a pathetic company. They make nice TVs but still pathetic.
Right, it's like Apple researched every mobile technology by itslef without infringing anyone's patent.

Does this mean that apple plans to enter the tv market?
Do people have good experiences with apple tv compared with tv of other brands?
If Apple did enter the TV market, they would most likely re-brand someone else panels. The question is who's panels would they use. I would like the think that Apple would go with Panasonic Viera panels as they are awesome (for plasmas).

Not to be nit-picky, but "death grip" was "Antennagate" -- what's the "etc" part you mean? It's like you wanted to create a list of Apple problems, so you mentioned the one biggee TWO DIFFERNT WAYS and then stuck on "etc" to make is seem like oddles and oddles of problems ... Like we wouldn't notice! Ha! :D didn't fool me!

Sigh, I'm getting the distinct impression that iCal is going to add a bunch of new features and not fix many of the usability problems it already has now. For instance, there is no way to shift several events in time simultaneously, you have to change each one individually. Another is that when you select several events from different calendars and copy and paste them they all turn into the same calendar category.
There are many more problems like these, but I've seen no mention in the preview reports that iCal has done anything to refine the existing features, only that new features are being added. If anyone with a preview can inform me of the contrary I'd be quite happy to hear it.

Most people with a mac also have ios devices, why not make it a bit more consistant?
Because it's INSANELY UGLY! That's why!!!
Is Steve even running the company anymore???? I mean... I know he's leaving the day to day stuff with others... But it looks like he's just gone.

it is not against the law in any way to give a different deal to someone else. Amazon bring more to the table than Apple and to add to it Apple strong arming has pissed a lot of people off and they want to break Apple strong hold.
Exactly. Apple says they will pay 70% to the music companies. They worked out their deals with them at that rate. If another company wants to sell music, they by no means have to get the same deal as every other company selling music. Its just nuts to think that way.
All companies go and negotiate their own deals. Wal-Mart negotiates for most products they sell. They never say Whats Target paying you?, we have to match that but they might say Whats Target paying you?, we have to BEAT that They could end up paying more or less depending on how good the company is at negotiating. Also bigger companies with more products sold normally will get a better deal. A lot of companies would be screwed if Wal-Mart stopped carrying their products. This leverage allows Wal-Mart to work out great deals.
Nothing is preventing Apple from reworking their deals. However no company has to change any deal unless they both agree to terms.
Stop feeling poor Apple just because another company may have a better deal. Its just business.

Along with the recent encouraging 3Q 2006 financial results (http://www.macrumors.com/pages/2006/07/20060719164004.shtml) from Apple on Wednesday, independent research firms Gartner and IDC have recently reported on 2Q 2006 market share (http://www.macworld.com/news/2006/07/20/marketshare/index.php) (via MacWorld). Both firms report solid gains from 1 year ago, with IDC reporting a jump from 4.4 to 4.8% U.S. Marketshare and Gartner reporting a jump from 4.3 to 4.6%, making the Mac maker the 4th largest maker of computers behind Dell (32%), HP (18.9%), and Gateway (6.2%).
This is the first reported gains in marketshare for Apple since the Intel transition, as last quarter saw minor losses (http://www.macrumors.com/pages/2006/06/20060601164133.shtml). From last quarter, it appears as though Apple has gained an entire percentage point in market share (up from 3.5-3.6% 1Q 2006).

It's been a strong position of mine for over 1.5 years that Apple's market share was to rise significantly. Data in now demonstrates that the position I've have held is valid.
I expect to see a large spike in Apple's market share over the next few years and by the time we see the successor to Leopard, Apple will have 8% market share. I made that prediction earlier this year.

Windows Phone 7 might be a joke of a platform but Microsoft is going the right direction with the elimination of UI chrome.
Sadly, it looks like Apple's moving the wrong direction on the desktop.
Fake leather graphics have no functional purpose. This is what they're spending their time on?
I guess now that Macs are only 20% of Apple revenue, we're getting the "B-team" developers and designers. I give Mac OS X 3 more years, tops, before it's Apple ]['d in favor of iOS entirely.

Agreed. Who in their right mind would buy this? I don't care when the iPhone 5 comes out - I've stuck with my 3g for this long, I'm not going to cave now and get an iPhone 4 - even if it is white. It's all about contracts. If I'm going to be stuck with something for 2 years, it had better be the best available at the time of purchase.
Personally, although I really like Apple, I hope that iPhone 4 sales tank in the next month or two. 1 year and 3 months is too long to have the iPhone 4 be your flagship phone product - especially when you don't communicate it to your customers. But, knowing my luck, sales will take off when they don't announce anything in June. :(
